My Favorite NES Games

I remember when the NES came out. I reeaaalllly wanted one. I remember making a cardboard version of an NES with cardboard game cartridges. But then in 1986 I got one for Christmas. I have so many good memories of playing the NES with my mom, my dad, my sister, friends and family, as well as by myself.

Super Mario Bros

My Thoughts: It was a crazy time. I remember talking about Super Mario Bros updates at family get-togethers. Like warp zones, and how far we had all gotten. The game was so much fun at the time.

Super Mario Bros 2

My Thoughts: I remember the day I got this game. It was for my birthday, and my parents took me to the store to get it. We got home and my mom said I had to take a shower before I could play it. This game is different than the other Mario Bros games but I like it. And I love the box art.

Super Mario Bros 3

My Thoughts: This game was a sensation. People couldn't wait to play it. I went to rent it and the employees had the last copy in their NES playing on one of the TVs hanging on the wall. I kinda felt bad about making them rent it out and not get to keep playing. This is possibly the best overall game on the NES.

Rad Racer

My Thoughts: This was my first NES game not counting the SMB/Duck Hunt game that came with the console. And I also got this in Christmas of 1986. I remember playing this game with my dad and we had a lot of fun trying to beat it.

Kid Icarus

My Thoughts: One of my all time favorite NES games. Its got a charm to it. Love the music.

Bubble Bobble

My Thoughts: A very fun game and I cherish the memories of playing this with my mom as a kid.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

My Thoughts: This was during the big TMNT craze of that time period so a lot of kids had to have this game. And the game is fun, but was too hard. I've watched videos of people beating this game but I accept I never will. It was still really cool to play TMNT on the NES though.

TMNT 2: The Arcade Game

My Thoughts: The best arcade game ever, and now we could play it on NES. I still have my memories of playing this in the arcade actually. And I remember I had a good friend in the neighborhood we lived in back in the day and him and I would play through this game at my house every now and then. Its a lot of fun with two players. Maybe too difficult as single player. Four player in the arcade was cool.

The Legend of Zelda

My Thoughts: It took a few years before I ever tried this game, and I was intrigued. But it was a game a friend had brought over so I didn't get to play it too much. But I did revisit it later on when I got my own copy. The gold cartridge was neat. The game is pretty fun. Its like exploring a strange world on your NES.

Tetris

My Thoughts: This was another big sensation at the time. The history of Tetris is actually really interesting if you look into it. The game is very basic, but very fun and addicting. My mom loved this game and played it a lot. It was neat when you would get far enough to get to the rockets blasting off after your game.

Metroid

My Thoughts: This is another one I didn't play too much until I got my own copy later in life, but its a really good game. Especially for its time. Its one of the best NES games.

Adventure Island

My Thoughts: This isn't actually that great of a game, in my opinion. But, I was a subscriber to Nintendo Power magazine and they had an issue featuring this game and I fell in love with the artwork they showed and it made me really want to play it. My dad took me to the rental store and I got a copy to try and I remember we got home in the tan Toyota Tercel and I clutched the game in my arms and ran as fast as I could into the house to play it. The game is fine and is kind of fun but its also too hard. But I love that memory and so I will always cherish this game.

Dr. Mario

My Thoughts: This game also has a funny story. My mom told me one year that I was not going to get a video game for Christmas so not to expect one. And that was fine. But then on Christmas morning I opened up a present and this game was inside. It turned out my mom really wanted to play it so she decided I could get a video game as a present after all. And I also have great memories of playing this game with my mom. Its kind of like Tetris but different and still a lot of fun.

Contra

My Thoughts: This is the game that made the Konami code a thing. Its a difficult game but easier when you can start with 30 lives. This is another one that is a lot more fun, and easier, with multi-player.

Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest

My Thoughts: This game sucks. LOL. But at the time it was fun. Its just too hard and part of the reason is bad translation to English made it difficult to know where to go or what to do. The music is cool though and it was something different.

Dragon Warrior

My Thoughts: Nintendo Power had an offer where if you subscribed or added on to your subscription they would send you this game for free. So of course we did that and I got the game. And its really good. It aged poorly but the Dragon Warrior series has put out some great games. I have memories of playing through this game with my dad which is cool.

Pinbot

My Thoughts: Another game I played a bunch with my dad. I really like this game. We used to see how far we could make it but later in the game you get things trying to eat or destroy the ball, making it difficult to progress through it. Lots of fun though and it also had cool music.

Ikari Warriors 2

My Thoughts: This is another game that isn't particularly good but I had a friend in the apartment complex we lived in named Stevie and we would play the heck out of this game.
